High school Musical

Dripping Springs Ward Newsletter

The Wildcats have East High. We have the cultural hall, a bishop in a letterman jacket, and a Sunday program with enough musical numbers to require an intermission. This week’s cast includes Rex Peterson, Thomas Orsak, three hymns, and an all-youth pizza party that may be the closest Dripping Springs ever gets to a cafeteria dance number.

Thankfully, nobody has to audition. Just show up, sing confidently, and try not to dribble a basketball down the chapel (gym) aisle.

Church Program

Second Hour - Sunday School

Opening Hymn: #30 Come, Come, Ye Saints

The original road-trip anthem. Long journey, difficult conditions, questionable snacks, but everybody keeps moving together.

Sacrament Hymn: #191 Behold the Great Redeemer Die

Speaker: Rex Peterson

Intermediate Hymn: #35 For the Strength of the Hills

Speaker: Thomas Orsak

Closing Hymn: #5 High on the Mountain Top

Three hymns involving saints, hills, or mountaintops. Apparently, this week’s production has a very generous location budget.

🍕 Youth Activity: Get’cha Head in the Game

All Youth Combined

Wednesday, July 22 at 7:00 PM
At the Skinners’ home

Pizza Oven & Floats

All young men and young women are invited for pizza, floats, and the kind of wholesome socializing that makes adult leaders quietly check whether everyone has a ride home.

Invite a friend!

No singing audition is required. Basketball choreography is strongly discouraged near the pizza oven.

Heads up: Youth night switches to Tuesday starting in August.

While we're on it — help us out.
We're building a roster of ward members who can share a skill, host a night, or lend a hand with youth activities. If you've got something you can teach, do, host, or supervise, take 60 seconds and let us know.

📖 Come, Follow Me: July 20-26

“Our Eyes Are upon Thee”

2 Chronicles 14–20; 26; 30

King Jehoshaphat learns that three armies are coming against Judah at the same time. He gathers the people, turns to the Lord, and offers one of the most honest prayers in scripture:

“Neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.”

In other words: the Wildcats have reached the final act, the scoreboard looks terrible, and nobody knows how the choreography ends.

The Lord tells the people not to be afraid because the battle is His. They move forward in faith, put the choir at the front, and discover that God has already prepared the way.

The lesson is not that disciples always know what to do. Sometimes faith simply means admitting that we do not know, keeping our eyes on the Lord, and taking the next faithful step anyway.

This is the one the intro spoiled: Josiah's construction crew finds the lost book of the law during temple repairs, and reading it turns the whole kingdom around. You also get Hezekiah, surrounded by the entire Assyrian army, deciding to trust the Lord anyway. Read it this week and you'll be a full act ahead of Nicolas Cage. See you Sunday.

TLDR

  • Sunday at 10:30 AM: Rex Peterson and Thomas Orsak speak, with a mountain-heavy musical lineup.
  • Second hour: Sunday School.
  • Wednesday at 7:00 PM: All youth combined at the Skinners for pizza oven cooking and floats. Bring a friend.
  • Ministering: Check on your people. We’re all in this together.
  • Come, Follow Me: “Our Eyes Are upon Thee,” 2 Chronicles 14–20; 26; 30.
