There's a moment in Top Gun: Maverick where Rooster finally trusts the guy he spent half the movie resenting, and they fly home together. It works because flying with someone is the opposite of flying alone. You cover each other. You call out what the other one can't see. You go home together or not at all.
That's most of what the gospel asks of us too. Cover your wingman. Watch each other's blind spots. And when somebody's spiraling, you don't lecture, you fly closer.
Speaking of flying closer, Josh is stepping in as first counselor in the bishopric this week. We're grateful for Spencer's service and excited to have Josh in the cockpit. Same mission, new wingman.

"If the Lord Be God, Follow Him" β 1 Kings 12β13; 17β22
Elijah on Mount Carmel is basically the ancient version of "pick a lane." Four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal yelling all day, cutting themselves, getting nothing. Elijah soaks the altar in water three times just to make the math harder, prays once, and fire falls. The point wasn't the spectacle. The point was the question: if the Lord is God, follow him.
We don't usually get a Mount Carmel moment. We get a Tuesday. We get a quiet choice nobody sees. But the question is the same, and so is the answer.
Keep your eyes on the horizon this week. We'll see you Sunday.
