There's a specific kind of love that only shows up wearing socks with sandals.
It's the dad who walks the perimeter of the house every night before bed, checking the locks for absolutely no reason. The one who reorganizes the garage every six months and calls it "going through some stuff." The one who keeps a tape measure in his pocket like an EpiPen. Who tells the same joke at every dinner. Who pulled the car over once on a family road trip just to point at a hawk.
Every kid eventually realizes the man with the laminated TripTik was actually paying attention the whole time. He saw you. He kept score. He remembered the things you forgot you told him.
This Sunday is Father's Day.
To the dads in this ward: you are the load-bearing wall of a thousand small Tuesdays nobody photographs. We see you. We are glad you are ours.

π₯§ Pie for the Men β Right After Church
To celebrate Father's Day, the men of the ward will be served pie after church in the grassy picnic area in the west lot.
In the event of rain, we'll serve in the high council room.
Show up, eat a slice, hug a dad, tell him he did good. Then eat another slice. That's the dad-approved order of operations.

"Hear Thou in Heaven Their Prayer" β 2 Samuel 11β12; 1 Kings 3; 6β9; 11
Solomon takes the throne with all of David's good and a lot of David's mess. The kid inherited the kingdom, but he also inherited the complicated stuff his dad left half-finished.
And the first thing he does β when God shows up in a dream and offers him anything β is ask for wisdom. Not money. Not a longer life. Not revenge on his enemies. Just the ability to know the right thing to do.
That's the most son-of-a-father move in the whole Bible. Watching the people who raised you do hard things imperfectly, and then quietly deciding to do them better.
Every dad in this ward is somebody's David. A little glorious, a little flawed, working with what he was handed. And every kid in this ward is somebody's Solomon, watching closely, taking notes they don't know they're taking.
The temple Solomon eventually builds β the one God specifically asks him to build β is a house where heaven hears the prayers of the people on earth.
That's the job, really. That's all of it. Make a place where your kids learn to pray and someone in heaven is listening.
Happy Father's Day, gentlemen. You're building one.

Floor Plan Update (Still Under Construction)
Quick reminder while the chapel renovation rolls on:
-
Sacrament Meeting is in the cultural hall. Lectern, sacrament table, and piano are near the stage. Plastic chairs face the stage.
-
The chapel, main west foyer, and west-side bathrooms are closed. So is the library, room 117, and room 114.
-
Pews and the organ are stored at the north end of the cultural hall β keep that area off-limits, kids included.
-
Park east, south, or south-west. The west foyer door is not a door right now.
-
The kitchen is sacrament prep central.
