Toy Story works because the heroes don't look like heroes.
A cowboy doll with a pull-string. A plastic spaceman who genuinely believes he can fly. A potato. And somehow, by the end, they save the day, get the kid home, and make every adult in the room a little misty-eyed.
That's the bench God's been drafting from since the beginning. He doesn't pick the obvious ones. He picks the available ones.
We're going to talk about a few of those this week.

Floor Plan Update (Still Under Construction)
Quick reminder while the chapel renovation is happening:
-
Sacrament Meeting is in the cultural hall. Lectern, sacrament table, and piano are near the stage. Plastic chairs face the stage.
-
The chapel, main west foyer, and west-side bathrooms are closed. So is the library, room 117, and room 114.
-
Pews and the organ are stored at the north end of the cultural hall β please keep that area off-limits, kids included.
-
Park east, south, or south-west. The west foyer door is not a door right now.
-
The kitchen is sacrament prep central.
Andy's room got rearranged plenty. They figured it out. So will we.

Speakers: Marisabel Holmes and Riley Skinner

-
Opening: #1013 God's Gracious Love (new)
-
Sacrament: #195 How Great the Wisdom and the Love
-
Intermediate: #177 'Tis Sweet to Sing the Matchless Love
-

A reminder that #1013 is from the new hymnal, so it might feel unfamiliar. Lean in. The toys had to learn new songs every time Andy got a new birthday present, too.

Youth Activities β Wednesday 7pm
All Combined β Slip 'n Slide Kickball + Senior Celebration at the Church.
Field your team. Round your bases. Don't slide head-first if you're wearing glasses. We're sending our graduating seniors off with a soaking-wet round of applause and as much cake as can reasonably be consumed before the lawn dries.
Andy went off to college at the end of Toy Story 3. We're doing the same thing, just with more chlorine.
If you've got a senior, bring them. If you are a senior, you're the reason we're here.

"The Lord Raised Up a Deliverer" β Judges 2β4; 6β8; 13β16
Judges is the part of the Old Testament that reads like a montage. Israel forgets. Israel suffers. Israel cries out. God sends a deliverer. Israel remembers. Then they forget again.
The deliverers don't look the part. Deborah is a woman in a culture that didn't expect one. Gideon hides in a winepress and argues with the angel for like three pages. Samson has the strength but keeps making it about his hair.
The whole book is God reaching into the toy box.
He pulls out the unlikely one. Hands them the mission. And somehow, the wall comes down, the army scatters, the people come home.
You are not too small, too quiet, too distracted, or too far gone for the job He has for you this week.
Reach for the sky.
