Joseph and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Decade

When What Others Meant for Evil, God Meant for Good

This week in Come, Follow Me we finish the story of Joseph, and if anyone ever had a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad decade, it was him.

Joseph was betrayed by his brothers, thrown into a pit, sold into slavery, falsely accused, and thrown into prison. At several points along the way, it probably felt like the story was going nowhere good.

But then comes one of the most powerful lines in scripture:

“Ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good.”

Genesis 50:20

Joseph’s life reminds us that even when things feel messy, unfair, or confusing, the Lord is often quietly working behind the scenes. What looks like a setback today may be preparing something far greater tomorrow.

🤝 Ministering Reminder

Joseph forgave his brothers after everything they had done to him. That kind of mercy is not easy, but it shows the kind of Christlike love the Savior invites us to develop.

Ministering often looks simple: a message, a visit, or checking in on someone who might need encouragement. Small acts of kindness can go a long way in helping others feel remembered and supported.

Come Follow Me

“God Meant It unto Good”

Genesis 42–50

Joseph’s story is one of the greatest reminders in scripture that the Lord can take broken situations and turn them into blessings. The betrayal that sent Joseph to Egypt ultimately placed him in the exact position needed to save his family and an entire region from famine.

Sometimes the Lord’s plan doesn’t look like a blessing at first, but He sees the whole story.
