Dripping Springs Ward Newsletter  🏃‍♂️ McFarland, USA: Faith, Grit, and the Finish Line

undefined

🎶 Church Program – September 21 9AM

  • Opening Hymn: 227. There Is Sunshine in My Soul Today

  • Sacrament Hymn: 185. Reverently and Meekly Now

  • Speaker: Greg Hearne

  • Intermediate Hymn: 292. O My Father

  • Speaker: Rachel Ellars

  • Closing Hymn: 301. I Am a Child of God

Like the McFarland team running shoulder to shoulder, worshipping together helps us endure. Which is harder, running hills in 100° heat or keeping three kids reverent through the sacrament? (Do not answer that too loudly.)

📖 Come, Follow Me: September 22–28

“The Order of the Son of God”

Doctrine and Covenants 106–108

The McFarland runners did not just show up on race day. They put in the miles before sunrise. What spiritual “training runs” are you putting in this week? Consistent scripture study, sincere prayer, and quiet service prepare us to follow the Son of God’s order with endurance.

Coach White found strength in his team by knowing their stories. Who are the “coaches” and “teammates” in your spiritual life helping you endure the long course?

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Youth Activities – Wednesday at 7 PM, Stake Center

  • Young Men Combined:  YM Dodgeball. Come ready to duck, dive, dip, and dodge.
  • Young Women Combined: Great British Bake-Off. Who needs Paul Hollywood when you have the Church kitchen?

Both groups at the Stake Center at 7pm, just different kinds of flour power.

The McFarland boys found joy in training together. How can you support your quorum or class this week? Who in your group would “accidentally” take the shortcut in a cross-country course or sneak store-bought cupcakes into Bake-Off?

🎓 Extra:

September 21 – Senior Fireside Kickoff

  • 7 PM at the Staker Home

  • For all High School Seniors

🤝 Ministering Reminder

In the movie, Coach White stepped into his athletes’ homes and learned their lives. Ministering is just that, being present, listening, and learning.

This week, ask yourself: Do I know the real race my ministering families are running? And remember, it is a two-way street. Reach out to those who minister to you too. They may need your encouragement as much as you need theirs.

🧼 Special Announcement: Primary Service Project

Our Primary is leading a project to assemble 75 Hygiene Kits for foster children and families supported by Foster Village, Dripping Springs.

Let’s blow past that 75-kit goal. Because clean kids = happy hearts.

👟 Missionary Section

The McFarland team turned a “forgotten town” into a powerhouse through teamwork. Missionary work is the same. It is not about running alone, it is about running together.

  • Who could you invite to run a little closer to Christ this week?

  • If the missionaries came over for a post-practice meal, what would you serve, protein shakes, carne asada, or straight-up Texas brisket?

  • Just like in cross-country, small consistent steps (an invite, a conversation, a dinner) add up to eternal victories.

🏃‍♂️ Too Long Didn’t Run

  • Come, Follow Me: D&C 106–108. Spiritual training runs matter.
  • Church (Sept 21, 9 AM): Hymns linked. Speakers Greg Hearne & Rachel Ellars.

  • Youth (Sept 24, 7 PM, Stake Center): YM = Dodgeball. YW = Great British Bake-Off. Both combined, both epic.

  • Ministering: Be present, listen, and run alongside. Reach out to those who minister to you too.

  • Primary Service Project: Hygiene kits due Sept 21. Goal is 75, but let’s sprint past it.

  • Upcoming: Sept 21 Fireside at Staker Home. Oct 10 Youth Temple Trip. Oct 12 Choir starts. Oct 19 Primary Program. Oct 30 Trunk or Treat + Chili. Dec 5–6 Stake Christmas Concert.

  • Finish Line Reminder: Life is a marathon with Christ as your pace-setter. Lace up, keep going, and remember you are never running it alone.

 🏁 Final Thought

The McFarland boys started as underdogs, picking lettuce in the fields before lacing up their running shoes. By the end, they were not just champions, they were family.

Life in Christ is the same. He does not just run alongside us, He carries us when our legs give out. The finish line is not about medals, applause, or perfect form. It is about hearing Him say, “Well done.”

So this week, lace up your spiritual shoes. Run your miles. Support your team. And when the hill feels too steep, remember you are not running it alone.
