IncrediMom: No Cape Required

DS Ward Newsletter: 🦸‍♀️IncrediMom!

No cape? No problem. She’s already flying.

 📖 Come, Follow Me – May 12–18

“Seek Ye Earnestly the Best Gifts” – D&C 46–48

“Not every super has powers… but every disciple has gifts.” – Not Edna Mode, but probably should’ve been

This week, learn how to recognize and use your spiritual gifts to build the kingdom. Just like Elastigirl stretches in all directions, moms (and all of us) are asked to stretch spiritually with love, patience, and faith. Ask: What are my gifts? And how can I use them for good without needing a cape?

🦹‍♀️ Youth Activities – Wednesday @7PM

Cue the theme music. It’s time for some midweek super missions:

  • Older YW & Priests – Video games, board games, and snacks at the Owens. Low-key, high-fun, Super Smash Bros optional.

  • YW 12–15 – Crafting heroic keychains at the Staker’s. One ring to rule your backpack zipper.

  • Teachers & Deacons – Backyard grill-off at the Slades. Steaks, veggies, and maybe someone trying to flip a burger like a Batarang.

“Dinner? Done. Games? Ready. Supervillain? Grounded.” – Every Mom on Youth Night

 🎤 Church Program – Sunday, May 11 (Mother’s Day!)

Speakers: Audrey Staker, Katya Thomas, Chazin Herzog, Thomas Rees, Blake Nielsen

Expect Spirit. Expect love. Expect tears (from joy, not baby spit-up). And maybe a few cape-worthy shoutouts to moms everywhere.

“Helen… you are Elastigirl! My Gosh, pull yourself together!” – Edna Mode

Translation: Moms, you’re doing better than you think. Keep going.

🧡 Ministering Moment

Check on your people, show up with treats, and if needed, stretch like Elastigirl and just be there. That’s your real power.

💬 Final Thought – “No Cape Required”

This week, we celebrate a very special kind of hero, one who doesn’t need x-ray vision, a jetpack, or a supersuit to change the world. She just shows up. Every single day.

She stretches (emotionally, physically, spiritually). She listens when no one else will. She packs the lunches, teaches the lessons, folds the capes, and somehow still finds time to kneel in prayer for her family. She’s part comfort, part chaos, part Christlike disciple and all heart.

As we dive into Doctrine and Covenants 46–48 this week and learn about spiritual gifts, remember this: most of the greatest gifts are used quietly in kitchens, nurseries, laundry rooms, carpool lines, and late-night phone calls. Gifts like healing, comforting, teaching, and enduring all wrapped in love.

“To some is given one, and to some is given another, that all may be profited thereby.” (D&C 46:12)

Mothers and all those who mother are divine examples of how these gifts work in real life. Not with capes or catchphrases, but with compassion and consistency.

So this Sunday, don’t just hand her flowers, honor her gifts. Notice them. Thank her. Better yet, emulate her.

And to all the moms, grandmas, sisters, aunts, leaders, and bonus moms in our ward:

You’re not just incredible.

You’re IncrediMom.

And this ward is better because of you.
